When pawn shop co-owner Paul Blaine seeks Blackie’s help with a $1,000 loan tied to a possibly stolen diamond, a shooting quickly puts Blackie under suspicion. With Mary Wesley at his side and Inspector Faraday on the case, Blackie investigates a pawn-shop murder, an ex-convict’s apparent motive, and a photographic alibi that may be too convenient.
