On a human-conquered Mars in 1997, a young colonist recalls encountering spider-like Martians forced into Earth-imposed reservations. When refugees set out across the harsh red landscape toward their northern mountain homeland, he becomes caught up in a powerful journey of displacement, endurance, and human solidarity. The story’s forced-removal premise carries an allegorical echo of the Trail of Tears.
