Russia is sending an increasingly clear message about where the war goes from here.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says Moscow will not stop at the current line of contact and says Russia intends to use “much harsher” methods against the support sustaining Ukraine’s military. Meanwhile, Russia has rejected proposals to halt certain strikes and is openly signaling continued pressure against Ukraine.
The timing matters. UN monitors verified 437 Ukrainian civilians killed in July—the deadliest month since May 2022—while Russia launched 429 missiles, more than twice June’s total.
Ukraine is responding by rapidly developing new defenses, including jet-powered interceptor drones capable of speeds above 600 km/h.
