For fifty years, people across Bristol, England have reported the same impossible sound: a low, relentless drone like a diesel engine idling somewhere in the distance. It gets louder inside their homes, quieter when they step outside, and sometimes only one person in the house can hear it. Factories were blamed. Highways were blamed. Pipelines, the ocean, tinnitus, military transmissions—even 5G.
Yet after half a century of investigation, something strange remains: residents have reportedly recorded a real low-frequency signal inside some of the very houses where the Hum is heard.
Tonight, we investigate the Bristol Hum... and why shutting off every electrical circuit in the house doesn't necessarily make the sound disappear.
