The San Diego Padres waited through a three-hour, 11-minute rain delay and then delivered one of their most complete wins of the season.
San Diego shut out the Cleveland Guardians 5-0 to win the rubber match and take two out of three in Cleveland, responding emphatically after being held to just one hit the night before.
Casey Mize was outstanding, throwing six scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and one walk. Jeremiah Estrada, Adrián Morejón and Yuki Matsui finished the shutout as Cleveland managed only three hits all afternoon.
The Padres offense delivered four home runs. Luis Rengifo and Gavin Sheets went back-to-back in the second inning, Jake Cronenworth added a 403-foot blast in the ninth, and Ohio native Jace Bowen turned his homecoming into a show with a 366-foot homer and two spectacular diving catches in left field.
