Waimakariri mayor is pleased the govenrment has declined a major fast-track housing development in his region. In May, housing developer Wolfbrook announced it had bought the former Pegasus golf course and sports club, 25 km north of Christchurch, with the aim of rezoning it to build a 1000-home residential and commerical development. The fast-track application drew significant community opposition, with locals gathering more than 16,000 signatures for a petition to Parliament. It's one of many fast-track housing developments across the country which has caused community backlash. Waimakariri Mayor Dan Gordon spoke to John Campbell.
