The chilling true story behind the 1993 made-for-TV movie Stalking Laura, also released as I Can Make You Love Me. The film, starring Brooke Shields as Laura Black and Richard Thomas as Richard Farley, dramatizes one of the most disturbing stalking cases of the 1980s.

Laura Black was a young computer engineer who was beginning her career in Silicon Valley. What should have been an exciting new chapter quickly became a nightmare when her coworker, Richard Farley, became obsessed with her. Laura repeatedly rejected his advances, but Farley refused to accept that their relationship was strictly professional. His behavior escalated from unwanted attention and gifts to following Laura, obtaining her personal information, threats, harassment, and increasingly frightening acts of intimidation.
