Flyers Daily with Jason Myrtetus: As a new Hockey season inches closer and closer we have a fun prognostic conversation of Flyers Fact or Fiction with Bill Meltzer. 8 Flyers Fact or Fiction scenarios for the upcoming season
-Flyers allowed 239 goals last season, 9th fewest in the NHL. They will actually allow more total goals this coming season but to less regulation detriment and be forced to OT less often as a result
-conversely they scored 240 goals last season, 21st in the NHL. They will add 20+ total goals scored this season. Plus 2 more games this season
-The Flyers ended last season overall with the 22nd ranked PK despite being 9th in goals allowed. Earlier I said they will allow more goals overall. But it won’t be allowing more goals against on the PK. They will finish top 12 on the PK
-Flyers had 6 OT wins. Not counting shootout wins here. They will avoid the shootout by adding 3 or more wins in actual OT?
-Flyers were 4th in the NHL at shot suppression averaging 25.5 shots against per game. They will allow a higher of volume of shots against this season incurring the risk to drive more offense off the rush
-if/when the Flyers power play gets off to a slow start, lord we hope not, Rick Tocchet will move to a 5 forward approach
-The Flyers regular season MVP will not be Travis Konecny or Dan Vlader, 2 Konecny and 1 Vlader over the past 3 seasons and will be a player that has never won the award. So remove Couturier who won 3 straight from
The 18/19 season to the 20-21 season
-Sanheim however will win the Barry Ashbee Trophy as the teams top defensemen after 3 straight wins and 4 of the last 5 seasons. Provorov won in 22-23. And was promptly traded that offseason
