Alex Eala becomes first Filipino to win a tour level title, Fritz wins biggest title since 2022

Dela

What a week it has been for Alexandra Eala! Join Joel, Kim and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as they react to the Filipina making yet more history by becoming the first player from her country to win a WTA Tour singles title after storming back to defeat (and final set bagel!) Jessica Pegula in Washington after a Sunday washout. Has Eala officially announced herself as a genuine US Open contender, or are there still question marks over whether her serve can hold up at the very highest level?

Elsewhere, we celebrate 16-year-old Kristina Liutova becoming the youngest WTA champion since Coco Gauff in 2019, while Arthur Gea continued a very successful last few weeks for Frenchmen on the ATP Tour with the title in Los Cabos. We also tackle the publication of the full ITIA report into Markéta Vondroušová's four-year suspension, debate whether players who retire in qualifying (ahem Bernard Tomic) should still be eligible as lucky losers, and make our predictions as the Canada Masters gets underway with Alexander Zverev and Aryna Sabalenka leading the draws.
