A new war of words has broken out between state and territory governments, after the Productivity Commission labelled the 2018 GST deal for Western Australia a "costly mistake".

The interim report from the Productivity Commission - released on Friday - found the deal has cost the federal budget $23-billion in its first 6 years, $22-billion of which had flowed to WA.

We hear from the former Finance Minister who was a key architect of the deal - Mathias Cormann. Then - the Treasurers of Western Australia, New South Wales and South Australia.

As well as the GST carve up - we get into the announcement of a joint gun buyback scheme between NSW and the Federal Government.
