Endometriosis New Zealand says it's delighted with new guidelines aimed at cutting years off the wait for care.
The new criteria, launched mid-next year, will support GPs to diagnose the condition based on family history, symptoms, and examination - in place of invasive surgery.
This allows earlier access to treatment and appropriate care.
CEO Tanya Cooke says on average, people have had to suffer through 10 years of pain and debilitating symptoms before they get a diagnosis.
"Many young women having to drop out of education, school, impact in their relationships - it's a long time to wait."
